Bookmarks by the renowned
Japanese illustrator and print maker Junichi Nakahara from the Kagawa prefecture.
In the 1920s and 1930s
his illustrations of young girls with big eyes were famous and he had a
dominant influence
during that generation. Nakahara is considered to be a
major forerunner of the manga art.
The bookmarks show
teenaged town girls in their typical costumes of the era. The titles of
the bookmarks can be
seen on the inscriptions in the background of the images.
