The double statue of Maya and his
wife Merit is one of the most beautiful Egyptian statues and dates from
approx. 1325 B.C.. Maya was a kind of minister of finance
under the two pharaos Tutankhamun and Horemheb. In Saqqara, he
ordered a
spacious tomb to be built for himself and his wife Merit.
