Over three hundred
years ago, Shah Jehan became the Emperor of India.
Jehan had many wives,
but he adored only one: Mumtaz Mahal. For her,
the emperor created a series of gardens
at Lahore, gardens the like of
which had never been seen before: The Gardens of Shalimar. The Sans-
krit word shalimar means temple of love.
So far the myth. One question remains, however, why Jehan had many
wives although he adored
only one? Maybe the Gardens of Shalimar were
even needed to convince Mumtaz Mahal
of this myth, what do you think?
